This year’s Bonfire and Firework Night at Luckley House School, Wokingham, on Friday 9 November has been upgraded to a Pyromusical Spectacular to celebrate the school’s Centenary. More than 850 of the school’s community is expected to watch the show that will highlight a specially-built steam train with birthday cake bonfire on board and, in a stunning finale, the cake’s candles will even burst into life!
The score for the Pyro musical Spectacular has been put together by three of the school’s musically talented students, Michael from Year 10 and Sarah and Millie from the Sixth Form. Continuing the personal touch, Steve Holland, the school’s Groundsman, spends weeks planning and building a spectacular bonfire and this year he has pulled out all the stops to produced something truly unique – a steam train, named the Bertha Drake after the school’s founder in 1918. The structure comes complete with working chimney, pulling a huge 100 birthday cake resplendent in school colours.
In previous years Steve has achieved the recognition he deserved when his ‘Pudding Lane bonfire’ was featured on the local BBC news and previous years have seen the ‘Houses of Parliament’, ‘Big Ben’ and ‘Westminster Palace’.
