On Monday 7 January, sixteen boys and girls, aged 13 to 17, took the first step to achieving the FA Junior Football Leaders Award. The course will take the pupils through all elements within the game of football: assisting coaching sessions, an introduction to refereeing, managing a team and organising different football events. The pupils looked at the England DNA and experienced what it was like to be on the other side of a coaching session, leading small sessions, learning new exercises and understanding the coaching process.

On completion of the course, our pupils will now embark on six hours of work experience, leading sessions within school, arranging competitions and refereeing games. Head of Boys’ PE, Mr Humphrey said “It was a great opportunity for the pupils to learn new skills and develop themselves holistically. They now have a qualification that could be of great value to them in the future”. Mark Rivers, the course tutor from the Berks and Bucks FA was full of praise for our pupils and encouraged many of them to pursue the Level 1 Football Coaching Award – a great compliment!
