The Luckley community joined together yesterday for a Thanksgiving Service to celebrate our 100th birthday.
It was wonderful to see such a diverse audience for the service, comprising pupils, staff, governors and parents, both past and present, as well as Wokingham Town and Borough dignitaries and representatives from our local schools and churches. We were also extremely honoured to welcome Luckley Founder, Bertha Drake’s great niece, Gwendoline Needham to the school.
The service was led by Chair of Governors, Rev George Curry and included a sermon by Rev Jon Drake and Bible readings by former Head, Richard Blake (1984-2004) and Year 7 pupil. Lucas. Prayers were led by pupils, Sarah and Poppy, Bursar, Norman Patterson and Alison Caldwell, who taught at Luckley from 1980 to 2017.
Luckley’s orchestra, A level ensemble and senior choir provided the perfect musical element to the service, with piano accompaniment from Director of Music, Janice Ellwood for the hymns.
The service concluded with the cutting of the cake, by current Head Student, Sarah and Luckley’s Head Girl from 1949, Dr Lloyd Jones.
