Luckley hosted a Primary Schools’ Netball Tournament on Wednesday 11 March. The weather was kind to the eleven teams of Year 5 pupils from local primary schools, who played a series of round robin matches, culminating in semi-finals and the grand final.
The ‘High Five’ format made for an interesting and challenging tournament for the schools. The teams consisted of five players on court for each match. The players were handed out bibs randomly at the start of the event, so it was pot luck which position each player started at. After each 6 minute game, players rotated their bibs so that they played in a variety of positions throughout the tournament.
The competitive spirit was strong between the schools, each determined to go home with the trophy. The final, between St Nicholas Primary School and St Sebastian’s Primary School was an exciting match, which ended with St Nicholas clinching the title with a 4-2 win.
Head of PE, Kirstie Dobney said “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the tournament. It was nice to see such good team spirit amongst the schools and to see so many children experiencing netball and competitive sport.Well done to St Sebastians and St Nicholas Schools in particular for an exciting final!”
