Supporting SJCR Families

We are all saddened at Luckley House School to hear the news about St Joseph’s College and wish to express our deepest sympathy.

We know that this is devastating news for the whole school community and would like to reassure you that the team at Luckley is working closely with the leadership team at SJCR to offer a solution that will give stability and continuity for pupils who have been displaced through no fault of their own.  Our focus is entirely on the children and prioritising their well-being and education.

Luckley House School is a remarkably caring community, with kindness and acceptance of each individual’s uniqueness at our heart. We are experts at ensuring that every child is cared for and nurtured so that they feel safe and secure at school – we believe that we can provide a smooth transition for your child into our community.

Join Us for an Open House this Thursday

We would like to invite families from SJCR to join us for a bespoke Open House on Thursday 21 May from 09:30 – 11:30.

This will be an opportunity to meet with the Head, Claire Gilding-Brant and the leadership team, tell us more about your child and to see the School in action.

Why Choose Luckley House

Luckley House School is a warm and welcoming school. We are a community; small enough for everyone to be seen, valued, and counted, but large enough to provide a rich variety of academic, sporting, and creative opportunities.  educating boys and girls from Year 7 through to Year 13, with both day and boarding places on offer.

Our Christian ethos, size, and flexibility to meet the needs of individual pupils and their families will be familiar to St. Joseph’s families. We pride ourselves on our:

  • Ability to deliver an aspirational academic education wherein every child is known, supported, and challenged
  • Small class sizes which enable teachers to tailor learning to the individual
  • Unrivalled pastoral care provision
  • Outstanding Music, Creative, and Performing Arts Programmes
  • Learning Support department, which was highly commended by both Muddy Stilettoes and Debretts
  • Inclusive PE and Games provision, which develops athletic potential, promotes confidence, and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle.

We provide school transport across across a wide area, including pick-ups in the Reading area. Please visit our Transport page, where you can explore routes and costs.

Admissions Process

We will provide a streamlined admissions process, so that we are in a position to offer places as quickly and efficiently as possible. We are experienced at successfully facilitating the transitions of mid-qualification joiners, so please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

Application will be via the Registration Form on our website (link below). We will then contact SJCR to request the CEM/CAT data and school reports and references for the child. This will replace our standard entrance testing process. If your child has special educational needs, we will put you in touch with our SENDCo to discuss individual requirements.

Claire Gilding-Brant, the Head, will review your application and aim to make a decision as promptly as possible. Once a decision has been made, Claire Crombie, our Registrar, will be in touch to share the outcome.

Parents of students currently in Years 10 and 12 are encouraged to contact us to arrange a personal conversation with a member of the Academic Team about supporting their transition.

School Fees

At this time of uncertainty we would like to offer reassurance that your child’s education can continue with the minimum possible disruption. To support this, SJCR pupils would be charged termly fees as follows;

Year 7 to 10 and Year 12
£7200 (incl VAT per term).  Fixed for two years, inflationary increase in second year.

Year 11 and 13
In recognition of the importance of minimising disruption in these key years we will honour SJCR current fees for one year.

We will waive our standard registration fee of £150 for SJCR pupils and will reduce our £1,800 acceptance deposit to £500 in this instance.

Microsoft Surface

All pupils are required to purchase their own Microsoft Surface tablet to use within lessons and at home for prep and further studies. The additional cost of the Surface is included in the first term’s fees. New parents are provided with information on how to order an approved device through the School with flexible payment options.
