From Monday until Sunday (June 22-28) we celebrate the BSA National Boarding Week, sponsored by Squadkit. Now in its fifth year, this year’s celebrations focus on the importance of health and well-being. #nationalboardingweek #squadkit #iloveboarding.
We have a very close-knit boarding community at Luckley House School and the health and well-being of all our boarders is always high on our agenda. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce some of them and hear from them what they do to stay happy and healthy.
Hi there! My name is Niamh and I am 17 years old. My interests are building big Lego structures, like Big Ben and the Disney Castle, and being what I like to call a ‘professional binge-watcher’, which involves spending a significant amount of time watching TV shows on Netflix. I love to spend time with my family, both my blood and Boarding family and I take pride in influencing younger people with my experiences in life. My top tip for other people is to be true to yourself and don’t let other people’s criticisms get under your skin, as at the end of the day, we are all put on this world to add something to it, and you can’t add anything if you are pretending to be someone else.
My name is Archie and I have been boarding for four years. I started boarding at Papplewick School and have been boarding at Luckley since September 2019. I stay healthy by exercising as much as possible. At school I go to the gym as often as I can and at home I go for 5K runs every other day. I also stay healthy by making sure to eat a variety of foods. To stay happy at school I play sports, or talk to friends and at home I go for a walk in the forest or play with my brothers. I am interested in music and singing and enjoy being part of the CCF along with D of E. My top tip for boarding is make friends as soon as you can with the other boarders, after all we’re all in the same boat and it’s great fun!
I’m Sophia and I come from China. I interested in running and reading and those things always make me relaxed. In boarding, you will make many new friends from different countries, so I think more communication with friends will be a good way to keep yourself happy and healthy!
I’m Paige and I’m in year 11 at Luckley House. I enjoy singing, socialising and playing sports. I have currently completed two singing exams and participated in the Berkshire Young Singers competition as singing is my main way of keeping happy. I also enjoy socialising with friends and boarding staff throughout boarding time whether it’s sitting having a tea and a chat or playing a game of rounders. A way to keep myself healthy is expanding my interests in sports by using the fitness suite and playing sports games. One of my top tips for others is to participate in as much of the extended day activities as possible. Happy National Boarding week!
Hi, I am Sylvia and I am from Nanchang Jiangxi China. Due to the coronavirus I went back China and I hope everyone are keeping well. In China, the coronavirus is being controlled effectively and as it is not good to stay at home every day, so my mum and I just travelled to Xi’an which is an ancient city, to enjoyed the summer and the sunshine. At the same time when we were travelling we also wear masks and washed our hands constantly so it is a good way to keep healthy. Take more exercise, wash hands frequently and keep you in a good mood, enjoy the last few weeks for this term!
Hello my name is Amadou I’m 17. My greatest interests are mindfulness, gardening in my quarantine lifetime and the exploration of documentaries. I like to spend time in silence thinking about new and efficient ideas that could benefit many people. My other interests include Formula 1 racing and the automotive industry. My advice to everyone who is ever going to read this would be the importance of your integrity and truthfulness. This will result in a clear conscience and will definitely benefit you in life, also be smart and safe.
I’m Lauren and I’m in the first year of Sixth Form at Luckley House. I enjoy playing netball and watching Netflix in my free time. To keep myself happy I like spending time with friends and attempting to make brownies with Paige. My top tip to others is to always remember to balance your studies with the things you enjoy to make the most out of your time at school.
My name is Olivia, I am 14 years old and I am from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Due to COVID-19, my mother and I have stayed in the UK. My hobbies are singing, dancing, and painting, I enjoy these even if I don’t think I’m very good. I also like to watch TV series. My way to stay happy during the holidays is to stay at home, eat, drink, watch TV shows, do the things I like, or sleep lots. My way to stay healthy is to go out and wear a mask, be happy every day, read more books, read more newspapers, eat less snacks and sleep more.
