Students have the opportunity to study the language and literature of ancient Rome, reading authors such as Virgil, Ovid and Horace.They also experience the social and political life of Roman civilisation which has inspired many later generations. As well as being exciting and inspiring, this course helps students to develop analytical skills and intellectual flexibility which will be useful in a wide range of jobs or in further study.

Assessment
Component 1: Language (50%). Translation and questions from a passage of Latin (40%) and translation of sentences from English into Latin (10%).
Component 2: Literature (Themes) (30%). Passages of literature on a particular theme.
Component 3: Either: Literature (Narratives). Passages of literature forming a narrative. Or: Roman Civilisation: A choice of two topics. (20%)
