Sport

We offer a broad and engaging curriculum where all individuals can achieve. We believe that all pupils who leave Luckley should have a good understanding of what it means to be healthy and what it means to lead a healthy active lifestyle.

Sport at Luckley

Our aim is to develop the athletic potential of every young person, enabling elite performances and encouraging success and confidence for all. We recognise each pupils journey in PE and Games is different and we use Sport as a vehicle for other outcomes, seen within the five core themes below. All of which is done within a safe and secure environment, where they can develop the confidence to express themselves.

Within lessons we encourage pupils in five different areas:
Emotional: Developing resilience, understanding marginal gains and embracing failure.

Social: Working effectively as part of a team, knowing your role and communication.

Creative: Developing problem-solvers, through tactics and strategical thinking.

Physical: Developing a love of movement and physical activity.

Healthy Active Lifestyle: Understanding the role physical activity plays in physical, social and mental health.

We offer activities at both a recreational and competitive level, with an abundance of opportunities available to all.

Here is a sample of some activities covered as part of the curriculum, lunchtime and after school, as well as fixtures*:

Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, CCF (combined cadet forces), Climbing, Cricket, Cross country, Dance, Duke of Edinburgh, Fitness, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Horse riding*, Rugby, Skiing*, Swimming*, Tennis, Trampolining, Golf*, Volleyball.

Through all the above, our goal is to encourage and help your child to commit to, and sustain, a balanced healthy active lifestyle once they leave Luckley and move on to the next phase of their life.

Athlete Development Programme

We have developed our Athlete Development Programme (ADP) to help our pupils become the best versions of themselves that they can be in sport. It is three tiered, with the top ‘Performance level’ aimed at our scholars and highly able pupils, ‘Development level’, which is again invite-only and for those demonstrating sporting promise and our Emerging level, open to all pupils as a stepping stone onto the higher tiers as well as developing them as an all-round athlete,

Our Junior (Year 7 & 8), Intermediate (Year 9) Senior(Year 10 – 13) programmes are tailored to the needs of each pupil – and include strength and conditioning, functional movement patterns, flexibility training, physical literacy as well as sport-specific skills training, these training sessions are run by Mr Nate Standing, our Head of Athletic Performance, supported by our senior sports mentors. Alongside the practical sessions, the ADP includes a year-long programme of workshops ranging from dealing with pressure, a balanced diet, goal-setting and getting the best out of yourself.
