The last day of term was a day of celebration as we held our annual Speech Day. Pupils, staff, invited guests and parents gathered together for a sumptuous picnic on the lawn, whilst entertained by our Luckley Arts Festival –  interactive subject-based stalls, an art exhibition and a host of short drama and music performances.

The formal prize giving ceremony followed, with speeches from Ms Lynne Moor, Chair of Governors and Mrs Jane Tudor, Head. Guest speaker Mrs Heather Henderson, a former Luckley pupil, delivered an insightful speech using the example of social media to illustrate her message of the importance of being your own person.

Mrs Henderson presented the prizes to pupils, which this year also included scholarship awards for the new 2015 Year 7 pupils. A particularly special moment for the school was seeing the first boys in its history walk across the stage to collect their prizes!

Head Girl, Amy gave a confident and heartfelt speech about her time at Luckley, as she prepares to move on to the next stage of her life. She emphasised to the younger pupils the importance of making the most of their time at Luckley and the outstanding opportunities that they will encounter.

The musical interludes throughout the ceremony were superb, especially the beautiful rendition of ‘Our Father’ (Johnson) sung by the Year 10 GCSE Music Group.

The celebrations finished with a cream tea on the lawn, mostly enjoyed under gazebos and umbrellas as the rain fell.

All in all, a fantastic day for all involved!
