Our Year 7 pupils recently set off on an exciting trip to Oakwood Climbing Centre, where they were challenged both physically and mentally while working together in smaller teams.
Throughout the day, pupils rotated around a variety of activities. They began with the high ropes and a thrilling zip wire, testing their bravery and resilience as they pushed themselves to new heights. Crate stacking brought plenty of excitement — while pairs carefully climbed higher and higher up the wobbling stack (safely attached to ropes), the rest of the team worked quickly to add more crates below. Once the tower grew tall, the climbers leapt off and toppled the stack with a kick, to cheers from their teammates!
Pupils also had the chance to try indoor bouldering — rock climbing on small artificial walls without ropes or harnesses. Many discovered impressive balance and strength, with some pupils navigating the trickier formations with real agility and confidence.
A standout challenge was the silent teamwork course, where pupils had to navigate an obstacle course using only gestures to communicate. If one person slipped, the whole team had to start again, teaching the importance of patience, problem-solving, and supporting one another.
The weather was on their side for most of the day, with the sun shining brightly. Even when the rain arrived in the afternoon, spirits remained high and pupils threw themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm.
It was a fantastic day of adventure, laughter, and collaboration — the perfect way for Year 7 to continue bonding as a year group and to discover the value of teamwork both on and off the ropes.
