Over the last term, students have been exploring Luckley’s ethos of Love and Service during tutor times and assemblies. These sessions have encouraged thoughtful reflection on what it means to serve others, to take pride in our work, and to live out our values in everyday school life.
As part of this focus, we have developed the Luckley Learner poster, which captures the qualities and attitudes we seek to nurture in our students. The poster is now highly visible around the school and serves as a daily reminder of the importance of kindness, integrity, effort, and service to others.
To reinforce this ethos, we have paired it with a Bible verse that encourages students to approach all they do with commitment and purpose:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord”
(Colossians 3:23)
This verse underpins our belief that serving God and others is reflected in how we work, learn, and treat those around us.
Every two weeks, new students are recognised on our Luckley Learner Spotlight display board, located just behind Reception. It has been a real pleasure to celebrate students who consistently embody our values and demonstrate them through their attitudes, actions, and effort each day.
Just before Christmas, we were also delighted to celebrate two outstanding achievements through Head’s Commendations, awarded by Mrs Gilding Brant. Mimi received a commendation for her powerful poetic response to Hollow by Vanessa Kisuule, alongside her thoughtful engagement with news clips showing the toppling of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol during the 2020 protests. Her work demonstrated insight, sensitivity, and a deep level of critical engagement.
Catherine (pictured) was equally deserving of recognition for her recent Science project: a detailed model of atoms that showcased her commitment to going above and beyond in her learning.
Moments like these provide wonderful opportunities to celebrate the many ways our students live out Luckley’s ethos and values, both in and beyond the classroom.
